The pervasive display represents one of the young and interesting areas of the research field. Pervasive display systems are traditionally been used for advertising purposes and for information dissemination in highly crowded areas like airports, shopping mall etc.

While considering a single display – a handheld display is comfortably visible by only a single user at a time. A large wall displays are normally visible to multiple users and allow simultaneous interaction with many people. Pervasive displays that normally consisting of coordinated multi-display environments are quite common. Personal and intimate display devices like head mounted displays, tablets, smartphones, watches will become part of such display environments in the future. A small group of folks has been insisting for color eReaders for years. Amazon and few other companies continue to crank out both entry-level eReaders and high-end models with premium specs and they all tend to have grayscale displays. But that doesn’t mean color ePaper is dead. Pervasive Displays just unveiled a new 12.2-inch electronic paper display that supports color and by color, it uses E Ink’s Spectra technology to do black, white, and one other color in this case, red. Use this low-power, high-contrast, and sunlight readable display for Signage with Pervasive Displays, it could be used in retail, the point of sales, office automation, or healthcare applications. Its display resolution of 960 x 768, that means it, has just about 103 pixels per inch. Its pixel density and limited color support mean this isn’t a display you’d really want to use for digital magazines, color eBooks or other entertainment applications. But the extra color could add a bit of pop to signs. The screen is easy to read in sunlight and doesn’t use any power to display a persistent image; it could be used for outdoor signage or for public transit or other devices that are in motion through a range of environments and lighting conditions. If you want to read full-color content on a handheld device, you’re probably still best off with a tablet rather than an eReader.
